I was just doing some work on Podcasters Across Borders (registrations, website, etc..) and I had a “holy crap” moment.

One of the things we do is have a list (down the right hand side of the page) of the podcasts that will be represented at PAB. I look at this list and I can’t help but be amazed at the amount (and quality) of people making the effort to participate in our event.

Not much more than 12 months ago, Cat & I had an idea for a meetup where we and a few of our podcasting friends could get together for beers and giggles. I thought of Kingston, because I wanted it to be central to Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and accessible to the USA by I-81. In my early thoughts, this would be a nice evening, perhaps even a camping weekend, and we’d exchange some podcasting stories, hang out and have a good time.

Enter Mark Blevis. He loved the idea, and quickly convinced us that it wouldn’t be too hard to build on our idea and convert this into a full blown event. Podcasters Across Borders was born. It was supposed to be a one time thing. It turned out to be one of the most amazing things I’ve ever been a part of creating. I’ve always been about community, and when I hear from podcasters that PAB was an event that helped define Canadian Podcasting, I can’t help but be proud of what we’ve accomplished.

At this point (with only 2 days left in early registration, hehe) we’ve pretty much equaled the number of participants we had last year. With no marketing. With no sponsors. With no vendors. Holy crap. It’s hard for me to express the pride at what we – and that includes everyone attending – have built here.

So while this post may seem self-congratulatory, it isn’t. It’s a thank-you and a nod to all those who’ve chosen to be active in this community, and to those who’ve discovered support and friendship in a little town in Southern Ontario.

See you at PAB,
