7 copies of the same social network

I joined Facebook earlier this week. Still not sure why. It’s mostly a case of “Seems harmless enough, and lots of people are doing it, so what the hell.”

So I started adding my contacts, picture, links.. blah blah blah.. When it occurred to me.. We join these sites, and the first thing we do is add the contacts we have in the previously “in” social site..

If someone wrote a “Personal Profile migrator” to (properly) copy all that information to & from the big social networking sites like Facebook, myspace, linkedin etc .. even Twitter.. they could charge $1 for each transfer. My guess is the costs would be recouped pretty quickly, and most people would pay $1 rather than re-enter all their crap all over again..

Don’t look for me to do it, I’m an idea guy. Maybe you can find a developer among my friends on one of the 7 social networking sites I’m on…

In the meantime, here’s my facebook badge:

  1. That’s funny man, someone (can’t remember who) said exactly the same thing in C.C. latest Managing the Gray podcast. I think this is an idea who’s time has come.

Now I’m (apparently) off to enter all my information for x-zillionth time, this time in virb.com. šŸ˜‰

You actually made me sit back and scratch my head there!

How many networks do we need to network with people we have already networked with? I think this mass migration to the latest and greatest social network site is just a part of our ingrained herd mentality and the love of something being shiny and new … now excuse while I join the other Lemmings šŸ˜‰

  3. I still think someone needs to put together a social networking drinking game or something like that.
